OTR 5k Frequently Asked Questions

Many questions have come up over the past few years. Ideally, this will help you find answers to some of the most common.

Q- Where can we park?

A- Parking is available in the following garages and lots:

Washington Park Garage – 1230 Elm Street –

Mercer Commons Garage (one block from Washington Park) on Vine Street, between Thirteenth and Fourteenth

Twelfth and Vine Lot

Towne Center Garage is a 617-space garage located at 1251 Central Parkway. Enter off Central Pkwy or Central Ave. Cash only.

Q – Is this event only for runners?

A – No, we strongly encourage everyone to participate.  We have walkers, runners and walkers with strollers, runners and walkers with dogs. All are welcome!!  We simply ask that participants allow others to pass and that those with dogs, strollers, and side cars start behind the runners.  We want this to be both a competitive run as well as an enjoyable event for those not racing for the finish line.

Q – Do I need to register in advance?

A – Registering online in advance guarantees you a t-shirt and size. It also helps keep race day congestion to a minimum, making everyone extra happy runners. As in year's past, registration will also be available in person during packet pick up hours (Thursday, May 19, 4-6:30pm; Friday, May 20, 11-5pm); and day of beginning at 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., just before the race start at 10:00 a.m. at the Registration tents in Washington Park, which will be located next to the Main Stage (closest to Fourteenth Street). $35, CASH ONLY FOR IN PERSON REGISTRATION. Only online registration only guarantees a t-shirt and size. 

Q – When do we pick up our shirts, race bibs, and timing chips?

A – We will have a pick up on Thursday and Friday (check Packet Pickup page). You will be able to pick up the morning of the race as well, but you might have to deal with some congestion.


Q - Is there a place where I can put my personal items during the race?

A - Returning this year due to its popularity, we have partnered with Barron Peck Bennie & Schlemmer LLP to have a personal item drop off for the race adjacent to the registration tent.  They will have bags for you to put your phones, keys, and other items of value to be stored with them and returned to your post race. A runner’s checked belongings should fit in one (1) of the BPBS provided bags. Please, no backpacks or other large/living objects. Pick up your checked items before 11:30 a.m., post race.

Q – When can I see my time?

A – Our timing will be performed by GHG Timing.  A link will be posted on our website and your time should be posted within 24 hours (if not earlier) of the finish.

Q – In regards to timing, will we have chips and adjusted timing?

A – GHG will utilize the timing pieces that will be attached to your bib for a chipped start and finish. You do not have to attach it to your shoes.  Please note that we will also have an air horn start.  If you wish to be competitive and push for a personal best in regards to finish time, please make your way towards the front in an appropriate area for your running level.  The start line will be about a few lanes wide on Thirteenth.

Medals & Running Categories (Stunning Rookwood medals await the top finishers!) Award Ceremony will be at approximately 11:30 a.m. with the help of our presenting sponsors.

  • Top 3 Male & Female Runners – Overall
  • First Male & Female Runner with a dog (dog running)
  • First Male & Female Runner with a stroller (assumed a child in said stroller)
  • First Walker (registered as a Walker)
  • Male/Female Age Groups: Under 15, 15-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over (*2015 Age Groups might vary slightly. Final age groups coming soon.)

Note: We kindly ask for those registrants who are simply out for the fun and comradery of a late morning 5k to allow the runners who are serious competitors to position themselves toward the front of the race start.  

What to bring

  1. Identification (I.D. is important!) 
  2. Cash (Between the City Flea, Art on Vine, and Food you will want cash on hand – though there is an ATM in Washington Park)
  3. Time (relax!! It is Saturday... in May…and you are outside!! And there is a huge green lawn with live music on two stages.)

The Summer Celebration is going to be the best yet!
The OTR Summer Celebration will immediately follow the race until 4:00 PM as it takes over Washington Park.
